When I was looking for a skin care/skin health related book at the library last month, this book caught my eye purely base on the title  – Skin Cleanse: The Simple, All-Natural Program for Clear, Calm, Happy Skin

It was an easy to read book, first introducing our skin as an organ and going a little into the biology of the skin function and general common skin ailments like breakout(pimples), dryness, redness, eczema etc.

Skin Cleanse then explains why our skin behaves differently for each individual – covering genetics to environmental factors. Adina tries to explain in a more layman term, asking questions along the way to trigger some thoughts.

What I like about Skin Cleanse is it dedicates 2 whole chapters about how food and diet affects our skin and how we can help to improve our skin by incorporating good diet habits. Then the next few chapters, she highlights the harm of slapping chemical beauty off the counter products and instead provides some natural skin cleansing, moisturizing regime by providing recipes using natural ingredients like olive oil and sea salt.

So my key takeover for me from reading this book :

  • Reminds me again how important a whole food healthy diet is for our skin.
  • Reiterates my belief that I should not or minimize using over the counter cleanser, moisturizer which are loaded with chemicals.
  • One tip somehow caught my eye : If you had to add just one fruit to your diet, pick PAPAYA. Papaya is a superfruit for your skin. It fights aging, heals sunburn, removes dead skin cells, soothes irritation, fight breakouts and brightens the skin. Seems a lot of good stuff for a piece of yummy fruit.

The author is also the founder of SW Basics, a skincare line that follows the philosophy of “less is more”. Their products use as few ingredients as possible for gentler, all natural care.

Now that I’ve finished the book, I’d better not forget to return it before its due date.
