If you suffer from eczema, one of the common triggers of an eczema flare-up can be the foods you eat.
When your rash is severe, or you are having an eczema flare-up and infected skin, one way to prevent it from getting worse is to avoid dairy (milk products).
Therefore, finding a suitable substitute milk alternative like oat milk (such as Dr. Oatcare) or rice milk that is wholesome and nutritious with calcium mineral is important.
After you have avoided milk during your eczema for about 4 to 8 weeks and want to enjoy milk products again, you can slowly reintroduce dairy into your diet.
What is Dr. Oatcare Oat Beverage?
Dr. OatCare is a nutritious blend of natural ingredients consisting of Montana Embryo Oats, 17 organic seeds, 9 mixed nuts, seaweed-derived calcium and flaxseed oil; all natural ingredients from the U.S.A.
Montana Embryo Oats are harvested at the golden nutrient time of oats, when the oats are high in fiber, calcium and protein.
Dr. Oatcare is high in calcium due to ingredients such as almonds, flax seed, whole wheat and other seeds and nuts. It also contains calcium derived from Ireland seaweed, which is easily absorbed and suitable for vegetarian and those who are lactose intolerant.
The ingredients are 100% natural plant based, making it high in fibre. One serving of Dr OatCare will provide you with 38.3% of your daily whole-grain requirements as it is a 76.6% whole-grain product. In addition, this beverage mix has no additives, flavouring or preservatives.
Why is Dr. Oatcare good for the skin?
This oat milk beverage consists of several ingredients which is high in Omega-3 (an essential fatty acid) which is important for dry skin and to reduce inflammation. Golden Flax Seed and golden flax seed oil is a good source of Omega-3.
It is also suggested that the high amount of fibre in oats can detoxify the skin by moving yeast and fungus out of your body, preventing them from being excreted through your skin where they could trigger rashes and breakouts.
It’s also important to choose oat milk beverages that do not contain any artificial additives, flavouring or preservatives, as these are possible eczema triggers.
How to prepare Dr. Oatcare
Dr. OatCare beverage is in powder form and easily dilutes in warm or hot water. After stirring, it looks and tastes like milk with traces of seed/grain bits. It can be consumed up to 3 times a day, by itself or you can use it as milk substitute with your cereal or smoothie blend.
This beverage comes in a box which consist of convenient sachet packets of 25g. You could bring it to office or for travel. Alternatively, for home, you could buy the tin of 850g which is more economical for more frequent consumption.
Learn how to manage your eczema through diet
Avoiding dairy and replacing it with a alternative such as oat milk is a good first step in managing your eczema.
However, the triggers for eczema will vary from one person to the next. For example, some people may be intolerant to seafood, while others may be intolerant to tomatoes. In fact, did you know that broccoli can make your itching worse?
A more holistic way of managing eczema is to address it from several aspects:
- STEP 1: Clean damaged and infected skin with a soothing wash, such as Hospigel.
- STEP 2: Calm inflamed skin with a topical product that contains anti-inflammatory ingredients, such as emu oil
- STEP 3: Identify your food eczema triggers with the help of our eczema diet planner.
- STEP 4: Heal and protect your skin with a topical product to allow your skin to rebuild itself, such as Lucas Papaw Ointment or Gloves in a Bottle.
Hi is this suitable for 16th month old baby as a beverage? Baby is able to use straw to suck. If so, what is the suggested amount a day? My baby has eczema and allergic to cows milk protein so will be great if she can drink this.
Dear Ma SuChun,
We have found a suitable oat-soy based baby formula-Lactofre which is suitable for 1 year above. You can read about it via this link : https://skinshare.sg/blog/2017/08/11/lactofre/
This beverage has nuts and many grains in the ingredients. As long as you have introduced these individual food ingredients before to your baby and she’s not allergic to nut or any specific ingredient inside, it will be a good cow milk substitute. However, I suggest to put in cereal to feed with spoon instead of straw because it has little bits in it when mixed with water.
