Heat Rash

Nobody feels happy with new rash spots but when new spots of rashes developed below my armpit, I felt excited. Anyway, we must look at things positively right? So begins my train of thought, I never applied any steroid cream there, so it’s not ‘damaged’ skin per say. It’s not that dry, with this hot weather, I’m perpetually sweating at home. That must be it! Heat rash cause it looks like what little one(9-month-old) gets occassionally under his neck folds. So I dusted some powder and applied calamine lotion when it gets too sweaty/itchy and miraculously, it will mellow down and change into dark brown spots after a few days. Sounds simple! Of course provided I don’t go into a scratching frenzy, but because prevention is better than cure, I reach for calamine or powder once it gets irritated. Or go for a quick cooling shower to wash off the sweat and cool my body.

Just to be sure that I’m doing the right thing, I consulted ‘Mr. Google‘ of course. And I was right, heat rash forms when the sweat gland are blocked and the sweat cannot get to the skin surface to evaporate. This causes inflammation that results in a rash. It appears as reddened skin with tiny blisters and is due to inflammation. It occurs in skin creases or areas of tight clothing where air cannot circulate.

The above facts also reminds me that I should not moisturize these areas with heavy cream as it blocks the pores further and may aggravate the condition. So, my our daily shower regime should suffice to keep it clean and not oily. Also, if in non air conditioned place like home, I wear sleeveless shirt and switch on the fan full blast to cool the skin.
