As a nurse, Alina’s day includes tasks such as checking patient’s vital signs and administering medication. Her hands are constantly in motion, tirelessly working to provide comfort and healing.

However, being a nurse also means subjecting her hands to frequent washing and sanitisation, a necessary precaution to maintain a sterile environment.

But, soon after her second pregnancy, Alina experienced a bout of distressing eczema flare-ups all over her body, especially on her hands and thighs.

Eczema is not new to Alina, but she thought she already had it under control. She had not needed to use any prescription creams for a while. But during post-pregnancy, her eczema seemed to come back with a vengeance. Her skin was dry and itchy, and she was having trouble sleeping.

“I’ve been steroid-free for five years. But since my second pregnancy, my whole body had a flare-up. My dermatologist recommended me starting back on steroids, but I am reluctant to.”

Why Does Eczema Occur After Pregnancy?

Postpartum eczema is a common occurrence that many new mothers experience. During pregnancy, hormonal changes can have a significant impact on the body, including the skin. These hormonal shifts can disrupt the natural balance of the skin’s protective barrier, making it more susceptible to various conditions, including eczema.

Additionally, the stress and physical demands of childbirth, combined with the challenges of caring for a newborn, can further exacerbate the development of eczema. The combination of hormonal fluctuations, stress, and lifestyle changes creates a perfect storm for postpartum eczema to emerge. In fact, some studies show that postpartum stresses could possibly trigger eczema in the newborn as well.

Looking for a natural remedy

Alina was determined to explore alternatives to steroid-based treatments. Through a conversation with our skincare therapist, she decided to consider emu oil as a natural eczema remedy.

Alina’s battle with chronic eczema surfaced prominently during her second pregnancy, leaving her disheartened by the limited efficacy of steroid creams. The cycle of temporary relief followed by recurring flare-ups led her to seek a lasting solution that didn’t compromise her long-term skin health.

Reaching out to Skinshare.sg, Alina expressed her keen interest in trying emu oil as a moisturiser. “My skin desperately needed a moisturiser, and one that doesn’t sting,” she said.

Besides using our emu oil to reduce the inflammation and dryness, we also suggested her to incorporate Argasol Silver Gel as an antiseptic. The Argasol Silver Gel helps support healing in broken skin. Combined with Emu oil’s anti-inflammatory properties, it would improve her condition, and prevent scratching at night.

19 Days Later: “I Feel Normal After a Long Time”

Less than three weeks after diligently following our recommendations, Alina reached out again to express her relief and gratitude. Her skin had improved considerably, and she could finally get a good night’s sleep again. The emu oil, coupled with the carefully curated skincare regimen, had ushered in a significant positive change in her life.

“I would like to thank you for recommending me the Emu oil! I feel normal [again] after a long time and I can finally sleep well.”

Fortifying Skin Maintenance and Prevention Strategies

Anticipating potential flare-ups upon resuming her nursing duties, Alina sought advice on maintaining skin health, particularly in light of frequent handwashing and sanitization.

Our suggestion was to apply Gloves in a Bottle shielding lotion on her hands to ensure ongoing prevention. Many nurses already use Gloves in a Bottle, and it is also used by people who work as hairdressers, dishwashers, florists, cooks; any profession that requires frequent hand-washing.

A Multi-Layered Approach to Manage Eczema Long-Term

As pointed out by our therapist, it’s important to use the right products to manage different stages of eczema. During times of flare up or redness, Argasol Silver Gel helps to disinfect and promote healing, while Emu oil reduces inflammation and redness (thus reducing itching). Finally, Gloves in a Bottle is used to protect hands from external triggers.

These products have now become a crucial part of Alina’s skincare routine. In addition, we also recommended her to use Y-Not Natural Shampoo with Emu Oil, as a remedy for her postpartum hair loss.

Alina also graciously provided before and after photos of her skin to show her progress. “I hope my story will benefit other eczema sufferers. I definitely recommend the emu oil and Argasol Silver Gel. It has certainly worked in reducing the redness, and I can now function better on a daily basis.”

Alina’s remarkable journey sheds light on the positive impact of proven natural remedies when it comes to managing chronic eczema. She found solace, rejuvenated sleep, and the ability to thrive in her daily life. We are so glad to have been able to help!
