Antiseptic Cream – Germolene

I have been having broken skin from the intense scratching at night. After reading several journals/articles about how antibiotic ointment affects the skin’s natural ability to fight germs & have a balanced flaura, we shouldn’t apply it continuously to broken skin. So I opted for a more general method to disinfect my skin ie. to use antiseptic cream.

I have tried several antiseptic cream (eg. Bacidin, Dettol, Guardian brand) but this specific brand caught my eyes one day when it indicated that it has an extra property to numb pain. If I scratch intensely, it does cause slight pain and sensation, which I believe causes me to want to scratch more or pick on it more. If it numbs the pain/feeling, then I will be able to fall asleep better without the irritating prickly sensation.

I tried this Germolene antiseptic and true enough, the spot doesn’t become irritated and lessens the intensity of itchiness/pain. With the antiseptic tea tree oil base ointments that I tried like Rapaid/Guardian brand, it irritated my skin more after applying. Of course this may just mean that I’m sensitive to tree tea oil which you may not be. It varies from individual and you need to try it out for yourself to find which is suitable.

If you have broken skin or oozing wound, you should also wash with a mild, moisturizing antiseptic wash like Hospigel. HOSPIGEL® is a cleansing gel in liquid form for face and body, suitable from newborn  to adults. It is safe to be used in wound care, skin conditions and daily wash and it’s made in Europe, but has been established in local hospital for 25 years.
